Paddling

in Port Huron

Explore Port Huron from a duck’s point-of-view in the seat of a kayak. Port Huron is the proud home to the nation’s first designated national water trail, The Island Loop Route. Paddling The Loop will take you along the Black River from downtown Port Huron into more natural areas, including the Black River Canal, where a wide variety of wildlife can be found.

You will then paddle from the canal into Lake Huron headed south and into the St. Clair River, where you will paddle alongside vessels of all sizes, including 1,000-foot freighters.*

* Navigating the St. Clair River in a kayak can be dangerous during certain weather conditions. Be sure and check the weather and waves before embarking on this part of The Loop. And: always wear a lifejacket while paddling.
