Port Huron is a very walkable, hike-able and bike-able city, thanks to the many trails that have been developed over the past three decades as a result of partnerships with other municipalities and private donor/partners.

From the countywide Bridge to Bay Trail to numerous river walks along both the St. Clair River and Black River, Port Huron is home to numerous walking, hiking and biking trails that are fun for the whole family.

Hiking and Biking Trails

The City of Port Huron is home to numerous waterfront walking trails:

Thomas Edison Parkway Located at the bottom of Lake Huron and the mouth of the St. Clair River where the Blue Water Bridge crosses into Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, this walking path includes spectacular, wide-spanning views of the bridge, and is one of the best places to view boating and freighter traffic in the community. Plenty of park benches are available for taking breaks or sitting and watching the boats sail by. This path extends south into Pine Grove Park and beyond into downtown Port Huron.

Tourism Tip: Park at the north end near the Blue Water Bridge, cross the street and visit the Thomas Edison Depot Museum before continuing on your walk south one mile to the Huron Lightship Museum.

Black River Walk The Black River Walk begins at Heritage Park at the corner of Quay Street and Fort Street in downtown Port Huron. The BRW follows the Black River west, with views of large and small sailboats and other watercraft, and ends at the 10th Street Bridge. If anyone is interested in packing a picnic, there is a covered pavilion complete with picnic tables located between the 7th Street Bridge and the 10th Street Bridge.

Tourism Tip:  Before beginning your walk, enjoy a game of chess on the oversized-chess board in Heritage Park, or warm up by the gas fireplace.

Blue Water River Walk Located south of the Black River in downtown Port Huron, this paved walkway follows the rehabilitated St. Clair River banks, where visitors will find artistic sculpture and restored wetlands along the river’s edge that is prime for fish spawning and other wildlife habitat. This walkway is home to a fishing pier, an observation deck and an outdoor classroom, among other amenities.

Tourism Tip: Park at the north end of the parking lot and visit the Maritime Center where visitors can learn more about the freighter traffic passing by along on the St. Clair River.
